zombies.
Trapped in a poorly barracaded house during World War 2, I find myself running from window to window peering out into the dark foggy night. The windows are shielded from the outside with thick wooden planks. These planks protect us from them. I cover the two west windows as my partner cover the two north ones. We take turns running toward the one south window every so often. We aren’t quite worried. I hold my sniper rifle and aim into the thick fog. For now, there is only quiet. There is only us and the unknown. I breathe heavily trying to keep a steady aim, using my left arm to support the weight of the rifle.
Then they come. Slow and brooding, moaning loudly into the foreboding night, cutting through the fog. Their arms flail as their heads sling back and forth in a violent motion. I need to preserve my bullets. I aim for one in the distance, specifically the fucker’s head. It’s the only way to kill them in one shot. “Fuck!” I miss. As the creature inches closer and closer to my window, I smell my own fear. I close my eyes and scream as I unleash a fury of bullets at the creature. He fell down and I can see the heat rise up from his body, the bullets leave deep cavities of hot and metal slugs into chest. The fucker’s dead.
No time to think, I make my way to the other west window. Two more. “How you doing?” my partner yells. “Not too bad!” I reply as I shoot at a barrel of gasoline with my pistol. BOOOOOOM! A loud explosion erupts through the air as a fiery inferno blasts and burns the undead creatures. I was lost in the moment of the hellish blaze, staring at the bizarre undead falling to the ground, lifeless in movement as they are in thought.
I hear the wooden planks falling to the ground. “FUCK!” The south window. I lose my train of thought for one second and we are liable to die. I run towards it only to see three of them have already torn down 4 of the planks. I shoot down one with a dead on head shot. I aim for the other two and cock back my rifle. It’s jammed. “Bloody perfect.” I make for the stairs. “NEXT ROOM!” I yell to my partner. They’re making their way in now. They’ve seiged us. My partner and I run into the adjacent room. It’s full of our ammo and extra firearms. I throw a grenade into the room before I leave. It should kill at least a few of them buying us some time to get our shotguns.
It’s gonna be a long night…
